In 1840, the Bay of Islands was the centre of international trade and enterprise, a major hub of the south pacific a place of entrepreneurship and innovation, and for a short time Russell was the seat of government. But then the new British government moved the Capital from Russell to Auckland and then to Wellington. In recent years, a new breed of Rangatira have been heading from Tai Tokerau to Pōkeneke, to take their seats in the Beehive. Is it now finally time to bring back the seat of Government back to Russell?
